A final walk-through with the
contractors before the bulldozers roll. |
| The
bulldozer pulls a chipper into the village, followed by foot
soldiers with chain saws. |
| The track
hoe did most of the work when it came to cutting and shaping the
roads across the slope of the land. |
| The new
roads mostly follow the older logging roads already in place.
We were greatly relieved to see how little damage the road
improvements seemed to do, and impressed by our contractors'
willingness to respect the yellow ribbons around trees we wanted to
be sure they saved. |

| Lunch time. Our crew takes their lunch break on the
site they have just cleared. |
